Marietta is a U.S city located in Cobb County, Georgia. The city is 17 miles North West of Atlanta, Georgia. In most cases, Marietta is considered part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The history of the city can be traced back to 1824 when the earliest people first settled in the area. The city was allegedly named after a Supreme Court judge’s wife. There are also those who are of the belief that the city was named after the city of Marietta in Ohio. After being formally recognized in 1834, the city became the official home base of the Western and Atlantic railroad.

In 1852, the city was officially incorporated and John Glover was chosen to be the first mayor. The city has moved on to grow quite a lot over the centuries. Oakton is the oldest continuously occupied area in the city. Most of the original settler families still live there up to this day. Today, Marietta is a big and beautiful city that is home to numerous attractions.

Domestic tourists from the United States as well as foreigners from other countries come to the city to see the nearby attractions which include the Zoo Atlanta Playspace, Marietta/ Cobb Museum of Art, Root House Museum, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, Marietta Museum of History, Six Flags White Water and many more. The Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park in particular is a wonderful place to visit if you are keen on learning more about the history of this region.
